Task: Invent a Game Not just any game… Not just any game… Your choices are American History topics from the end of Colonization to the Beginning of the Civil War—1756 through 1860 The basic design is a board game
4
Choose Your Favorite Game or Get Totally Inventive
5
So far… You picked a topic You found a design to use for the board
6
…Now It’s Time to Work Research – What is the topic about? – Who was involved? – How did things change? – Where did it take place? Design – Think about the “start” and “finish” – What game pieces will you need – How will the players move on the board?
7
Write the Rules How do you begin? How do the players move and in what order? How do you move around the board? How do you gain points or chips or cash? How do you determine who wins?
8
Step One Step One: Design the Board Sketch out a few drafts using a basic pattern from some classics After each try, play a round Take notes on what works and what doesn’t List supplies for the game as you create
9
Step Two Step Two: Incorporate This is a Humanities project, so stick to the topic you picked at the beginning How can you work in the facts you found while researching? – Chance cards? – “Route” blocks? – Currency? – Pieces? – Goal?
10
Step Three Step Three: Work Out the Kinks Assemble all the pieces Test-drive the game with family/friends Refine the problems Rewrite the rules Test again
