Grid-Based Energy-Efficient Routing from Multiple Sources to Multiple Mobile Sinks in Wireless Sensor Networks Kisuk Kweon, Hojin Ghim, Jaeyoung Hong and Hyunsoo Yoon Division of Computer Science Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, 373-1 Guseong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon 305-701, Rep. of Korea IEEE ISWPC 2009

Outline Introduction Related Work GRID-BASED ENERGY-EFFICIENT ROUTING (GBEER) Performance Evaluation Conclusions

Introduction static sink sensor nodes which near to the sink draining of its battery quickly

Introduction mobile sink Mobile sink periodically flooding the sink location

Related Work ( TTDD ) mobile sink source dissemination node Record a upstream dissemination node towards the source

Related Work ( TTDD ) mobile sink source dissemination node Primary Agent Immediate dissemination node

Related Work ( TTDD ) mobile sink source dissemination node Primary Agent Immediate dissemination node

Related Work ( TTDD ) The grid construction and maintenance per each source leads to a considerable overhead.

GRID-BASED ENERGY- EFFICIENT ROUTING (GBEER) Grid Construction Data Announcement Data Request Data Forwarding

The concept of the quorum

GBEER - Overview

GBEER - Grid Construction Each cell is indexed by a cell ID All sensor nodes equips GPS header

GBEER - Data Announcement event data announcement packet (DA-packet) : location information of the source, cell ID, and data generation time. announcement quorum source Each header stores the packet forwarding information which is source’s cell ID and data generation time written in the DA-packet for requesting future data packets DA-packet

GBEER - Data Request announcement quorum source hello packet immediate node immediate header When the sink needs the data, it sends a data request packet (DR-packet) to the immediate node. The DR-packet consists of the location information and cell ID of the immediate node. DR-packet request quorum

GBEER - Data Forwarding announcement quorum source immediate node immediate header request quorum DR-packet When the header with DA-packets receives the DR-packet, it retrieves the DA-packet and checks the data generation time to decide whether the data is stale or not

GBEER - Data Forwarding source immediate node immediate header

Performance Evaluation NS-2 100 sensor nodes in a 1, 000 × 1, 000 m 2 sensing field The size of the cell is set to 200 m 2 Sources generate the data packet at an interval of 1 second Each control packet is 36 bytes long and the data packet is 64 bytes long Sinks move at speeds of 10m/s 0.66W for transmitting 0.395W for receiving

Total energy consumption We fix the number of sinks as 4

Total energy consumption We fix the number of sources as 2

Average delivery success ratio

sinks’ speeds We fix the number of sources and sinks as 2 and 4, respectively

Conclusions We adopted a Grid-Quorum solution to effectively advertise and request the data for mobile sinks we proposed GBEER to effectively send the data to multiple mobile sinks and minimize the battery power consumption of sensors

Thank you !
