How Fast Is The Truck Moving? Observe the toy truck. What is the approximate speed?? 0 m/s 0.70 m/s 460 m/s 30,000 m/s 220,000 m/s Answer: All of them!

Scalar Vs. Vector Measurement Scalar: A quantity with no Direction attached to it, only Magnitude Ex: How many apples would you like to buy? Vector: A quantity with both Direction AND Magnitude. Ex: Dude, stop trying to sell me apples. Just turn around and walk 15 meters away from me. Magnitude: The amount of stuff. Direction: Which way something is going.
4
Distance Vs. Displacement Distance: Scalar Quantity Total distance covered Ex: Odometer on a car. Displacement Vector Quantity Change in position How far away from the starting point. Ex: How far have you travelled from home?
5
Speed Vs. Velocity Speed: Scalar quantity Ex: What is read on your speedometer Instantaneous Velocity Vector Quantity Your Speed and Direction at any given point in time. Average Velocity Vector Quantity (Total Distance / Total Time)
6
Instantaneous vs. Average Velocity Ex: Your instantaneous speed is changing at any given point in time but your average is as follows. Two ways to change Velocity? Change Speed Change Direction
