Introduction to Motion
SPH3U – Physics 11 Introduction to Motion Lesson 1
2
How do we define Quantities of motion?
There are two types of quantities that we use when we talk about motion. Vector Quantity – has a magnitude and a direction Example: Scalar Quantity – has only a magnitude
3
What are the different types of motion?
There are two types of motion we will study: Uniform Motion motion in a straight line at a constant speed Non-Uniform Motion motion with a change in speed and/or direction

6
Average Speed vs. Instantaneous Speed
The total distance travelled divided by the total time. Instantaneous Speed The speed at a particular point in time.
