Curriculum In A Nutshell This document describes the objectives that students should master by the end of Gr. 1. These areas will be discussed during conferences in November and March.

Common Core State Standards We will be teaching using the Common Core State Standards as our objectives. The Common Core State Standards focus on College and Career Readiness.

Common Core State Standards Each standard utilizes skills from previous grades and builds upon them to meet the College and Career Readiness Standards. Count by 5’s Tell time to the nearest 5 minutes Tell time by hour and ½ hour Count & recognize numbers

Reading Bedrock Words (AKA Sight Words or “Popcorn Words”) and Word Rings We also cover 2 nd grade words with students who finish 1 st grade words. Word Rings will look different. Dot Books-up to 5 per week -less than 5 if they are reading longer books

Science/Social Studies Our Curriculum -Famous People, Maps and Globes, Fire Safety, Thanksgiving, Pushes and Pulls, Kenya (studying animals), Insects, and so much more!

Homework Homework begins in October. Goes home Monday, Comes back Friday Reading at Home (RAH) Homework until December. Parents and students learn how to use the Reading Hand. Homework will change a bit from January- June and students should be able to complete most of it independently. Math Homework will go home all year. Remember - Homework is practice! It should not be difficult!
