Americans call to fight against the British was ignored by English Canadians because: * many of the English Canadians = recent arrivals from American Colonies (Loyalists) * liked having their own land, so decided to play it safe and remain neutral

Americans call to fight against British was ignored by the French Canadiens because: * Americans were much less tolerant than British (denounced French Law and the Catholic Church)

* The Continental Congress (13 Colonies) approved a full- scale invasion of Canada in 1775 * Loyalists (People who were loyal to Britain) immigrated to Canada * Americans wanted to prevent Britain from using Canada as a base for strikes against the 13 Colonies * In September 1775, the Americans attacked Montreal and Quebec City

* 1776: The Americans withdrew from Canada completely on July 2 * 2 days later the Continental Congress issued a Declaration of Independence. * 13 Colonies no longer had “rebels” self-proclaimed government!

* The Treaty of Paris (not to be confused with the Treaty of Paris) ends the American Revolution in 1783. * Americans win their independence. * Winner: U-S-A! U-S-A! Loser: Great Britain. * The entire Ohio Valley was handed over to the Americans. The border was drawn at the great lakes
