A bit of history… Primary and secondary school (GCSEs and A levels) University “Medicinal Chemistry” degree Trained to be a secondary school chemistry teacher Now… work in publishing books and websites for secondary schools to use in class.

What am I working on now? Exams, not teaching materials Lots of research for the new GCSEs in 2016 What are you going to learn in science when you’re 14 and 15?

How do we get things ready for people to buy? Lots of steps Big team which is made of lots of people: Designers Editors Project managers Digital specialists Publishers

Step 1: find an author Who does this? The publisher How? Who wrote things for us last time? Any good teachers that they know? Any experts in a specific area? Another publisher worked with any good authors in the past?

Step 2: development edit Who does this? Editor What happens? The content is changed around Editor makes suggestions to author, and everyone agrees!

Step 5: proofread Who does this? Editor What do they do? Check the final content before it goes to be printed to make sure there are no mistakes.

Step 6: final checks, and... print! Senior people need to check it and ‘sign it off’ Send it to print!
