3 *I was born and raised in Austin, Texas *I graduated from Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas *This is my 16 th year teaching, 13 th in kindergarten, 8 th year in Klein *I have a husband-John, 2 stepdaugters-Kassidy and Kaitlyn, and a 2 year-old daughter-Kinley * My goal is to foster a LOVE for learning within your child in a FUN, NURTURING and POSITIVE environment!

4 Zwink is a High Expectations... High Support School! We have high expectations for each child’s achievement, and we provide the support to get them there. High expectations for behavior, character and academic achievement

5 FOLDERS Daily Folder- please check and empty each day. There is a short assignment for discussion that you can complete each day with your child Wednesday Folder- sign and return on Thursdays

6 Homework and Grading Homework - short assignment to reinforce a skill and focus on student-parent communication Small Group Instruction – not many worksheets or “pencil and paper” tasks Reteach, Retake - opportunities for reinforcing learning and achieving success

8 Grades Report cards come home at the end of each nine weeks. In Kindergarten, children do not receive numerical grades. They receive E,S,N,or U’s. –E+= Excellent 96-100 E= Excellent 90-95 –S+= Satisfactory 85-89 S=Satisfactory 80-84 –N= Needs Improvement 70-79 -U= Unsatisfactory 69 and Below

9 Power Hour An opportunity to individualize instruction to particular student needs Students are grouped based on a need to reinforce certain skills Every kindergarten teacher has a group at the same time Other students work in stations to reinforce current skills being taught

10 Basic Schedule 7:50 – 8:30 Small groups, Individual Work, News Crew 8:30 – 10:00 Calendar, Math 10:00 – 10:45 Specials 11:17 – 12:17 Lunch and Recess 12:30 – 2:00 Reading, Language Arts 2:00 – 3:00 Power Hour

11 Lunch Our lunch time is 11:17 – 11:47 Student lunch is $2.05 If you would like to eat lunch with your child, please check in at the office and meet us in the cafeteria. You may deposit money into their lunch account on-line or send money in a sealed envelope in their Daily Folder. PLEASE help your child memorize their lunch pin number.

12 Specials P.E. is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. *Please have child wear appropriate shoes to school on these days. Music is Thursday and Friday Art- every Wednesday Library- every Friday

13 Your child’s Safety is very important to me. * I must be notified about changes in transportation! Please send a note in your child’s Daily Folder or notify the front office BEFORE 2:30 * If your child has an early dismissal, please send a note in their Daily Folder so I can them packed up and ready to go. * Encourage your child to tell me right away when an incident occcurs. (recess etc.)

14 Nurtured Heart The Nurtured Heart Approach is a social curriculum that builds inner wealth by giving children a deep conviction that they can cope with problems and succeed socially and emotionally. 1)Active recognition of what children are doing well. 2)A refusal to put energy into anything negative. 3)Clear rules, consistently enforced without exception.

17 READ, READ, READ!!! Please read with your child each night! I can not tell you how important it is to his or her success! Please continue to practice letter identification, counting to 100, handwriting and rhyming with your child. Your child is going to learn and grow so much this year!

18 Parent Conference Day is Monday, October 13. Please sign up for a time if you would like a conference on this day. Working together we can make this first year a success for your child!
