Stigmata On September 20, 1918, Padre Pio was kneeling in front of a large crucifix when he received the visible marks of the crucifixion, making him the first stigmatized priest in the history of the Church.
5
The blood from the stigmata had a smell many described as like perfume or flowers.
7
In July 1918, Pope Benedict XV (15 th ) asked all Christians to pray for an end to the World War. On July 27, Padre Pio offered himself as a victim for the end of the war. Days later, he had a vision in which Christ appeared and pierced his side.
8
As a result, Padre Pio had a physical wound in his side called a "transverberation" or piercing of the heart showing the union of love with God.
9
Sainthood At first, the Church denied the stigmata and banned Padre Pio from saying mass in public. Padre Pio's feast day, September 23rd, is an "obligatory memorial" in the church's general liturgical calendar. This means the celebration must be observed in Masses on the day it occurs. Only one other 20 th century saint’s feast day is obligatory.
10
Why I choose Padre Pio Padre Pio is a very unique person he had the courage to keep saying mass even after his stigmata Not many parishes, Churches or Schools are named after him He is a very important person; he devoted his life to God at age 5, we devote our life to God by going to mass and going to a catholic school

What Should we Name our Tri Parish Cluster NILE KUHL

What is Happening? As of July 1st, 2016, the following parishes will be combining: Immaculate Conception, St. Peter’s, St. Mary’s, and Port Catholic School. The parishes have discussed the name of this and have narrowed it down to 12 names for this new parish. They have asked the students of Port Catholic School to help choose a name. The Naming Celebration will be on January 24th. My personal favorites are as followed: Mother of Mercy St. Padre Pio
