Biography of Rosa L. Parks

Personal Information Rosa Louise (McCauley) Parks was born on February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. She died at the age of 92 on October 24, 2005 in Detroit, Michigan When Rosa was young she lived with her parents James and Leona Edwards and her brother Sylvester. She was home schooled by her mother until age 11. She went to an all girls middle school called Industrial School for Girls, in Montgomery, AL. Rosa Parks graduated from an all African American Booker T. Washington High at age 16.

Accomplishments Rosa joined the NAACP in 1943.
She stood up for what she believed in and what shed believed was that black and white people should be treated the same way. In 1955 she was arrested for refusing to give her seat to a white man on the bus after a long days work as a seamstress at a department store. This started the Montgomery Bus Boycott and she became the Mother of the Civil Rights Movement.

Fun Facts Rosa Parks grew up on a farm and liked to go fishing with her Grandma and Grandpa when she was a little girl. She and her brother went to school in one room, there was no bus for them. In 1932 she married Raymond Parks, he was a nice guy.
