LIMERICK A limerick is a 5 line poem that has two lines that rhyme and three lines that rhyme It’s usually very funny or silly The pattern is A, A, B, B, A

There once were four girls named Michelle, Who really could swim quite well, They jumped in the bay And went swimming one day And are still there from what we can tell!

Cinquains A cinquain is a poem that has five lines Each line follows a specific pattern or rule GRAMMAR PATTERN Line1: A noun Line2: Two adjectives Line 3: Three -ing words Line 4: A phrase Line 5: Another word for the noun SYLLABLE WORD PATTERN Line1: Two syllables Line2: Four syllables Line 3: Six syllables Line 4: Eight syllables Line 5: Two syllables

HAIKU Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry Written about common things using simple words and grammar Must “paint” an image of the item in the reader’s mind Three lines long Pattern: 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables

KIDS School is out today Kids racing down the hallways Hello, yellow bus! OLD MAN Walking down the road Gnarled, bent, sad and so lonely Wishing he was young COOKIES Little rounds of dough Filled with big chunks of chocolate Sugary and sweet DIAMONDS Precious bits of stone The Earth’s glitter from below Mrs. T likes them!
