I. TITLE: classification lab II. PURPOSE : to classify and prepare a “key” that allows for identification of various objects based upon observable properties. III.PROCEDURE : rtb..obtain a tray of items and begin to identify characteristics that allow for the making of a key similar to the ones seen in this presentation. Use your phone to take pictures of the items in your tray.

IV: DATA for tray number : _____ # of objects in tray: _____ #OBJECT NAME length (cm) ColorFlexible or inflexible Shape ( round,square,irregular, etc) Use the ruler above to measure objects Go 20 objects deep

V. GRAPH : none VI. Q’s: prepare a “key” for identifying the objects in the tray(s) assigned to you. The key should proceed from vague and broad to specific –the last bubble, should be the name of the object. VII. Conclusion : VIII. SOE :

KEY hierarchy Make your “bubbles “ in your key in this order and connect the bubbles from top to bottom –see next slide : *Flexible or inflexible *Length bubbles : Less than 5 cm, 5-10 cm,longer than 10 cm *Shape bubbles Round,square,cylinder or whatever shapes you identify for your material *Color Bubbles for what color you observe, you may combine bubbles *Final bubbles : the names of the objects
