Today’s Agenda… Finish notes & discussion from yesterday Edit multiple choice New multiple choice questions about chemical reactions Introduction to Reaction Rate

Reaction Rate Study Pack #5

Chemical Reactions When the particles in your reactants bump into each other a chemical reaction can occur Think about when baking soda particles bump into vinegar particles!

Chemical Reactions If we can get more particles to bump into each other more often, we can speed up a chemical reaction!

Reaction Rate A reaction rate is the speed at which a reaction occurs Chemical reactions do not all occur at the same rate Some happen faster and some slower Example: Compare the chemical reaction in a match to that of spoiling food How fast a reaction happens depends on how easily the particles can get together to make a reaction occur

Reaction Rate If a reaction has a low rate, that means the particles get together and react at slower speeds than a reaction with a high rate The reaction rate depends on what types of particles are reacting

Rates of Chemical Reactions Reaction rate also depends on other factors Factors that affect the rate of a chemical reaction are: Concentration Surface area Temperature

Rates of Chemical Reaction Concentration is how much of one substances is in a certain volume of another Let’s look at an example!

Exit Slip How did concentration affect the reaction rate of the chemical reaction that you saw on the video? Justify your answer!
