The Use of edTPA Exemplars and Field Experience Module in Live Text 2015 Fall edTPA Technical Assistance Conference Dr. Kathleen Fabrikant Ms. Megan E. Morris Ms. June Erskine

Lesson Learned AY14-15 Over the past year, Armstrong has developed a seamless portal for edTPA and Internship II/Graduate Internship on Live Text. This portal provides a centralized location to access/submit: edTPA exemplars edTPA handbooks/templates Internship requirements/Field Experience Module Support seminar resources/presentations

Presentation Agenda/Outline Participants will understand the development of edTPA exemplars by and for Armstrong students and their use in LiveText. Participants will understand the security and confidentiality guards used to protect this information. Participants will understand how internship seminars are structured Participants will understand how LiveText is used to support all stakeholders during internship/edTPA semester.

Based on a surveys of our graduating teacher candidates, almost all indicated a desire to see exemplars in their content areas Summer research project based on content areas of interns expected Fall 2015 Format possibilities o How and where to create exemplars? o Use existing portfolios or create new? o What do the rubrics say? o Where is most of the information needed by candidates? History of Exemplars

Somewhere easily assessable for our interns Somewhere that meets confidentiality standards (FERPA) Somewhere administrators and appropriate university personnel could access (students, content mentors, university supervisors) What to choose? We decided to use existing portfolios from our own candidates: 1.We had permission to use them for “inside” training only 2.We could also ask permission of the candidates to use them 3.We chose portfolios with the highest national score in each content area 4.We aligned exemplar portfolios with content areas of Fall 2015 candidates 5.There were approximately 20 randomly chosen each semester Where to house the exemplars?

LiveText: already our platform for Key Assessments, dispositions and other student work Each portfolio contains the following for Task 1: Context for Learning, lesson plans, assessments (blank), planning commentary For Task 2: Instruction commentary (videos were not included because we did not have permission to use them internally (we will this semester, however). For Task 3: Student assessment work samples, examples of feedback, rubrics, assessment commentary Where we housed the exemplars

Context for Learning – if needed Lesson Plans- if needed (especially Academic language) Commentaries – planning, instruction, and assessment. Passages highlighted in yellow indicate evidence to support the rubrics as a national scorer would. Passage highlighted in blue indicate how each applicable rubric was scored nationally and why. What would be needed to satisfy a higher level rubric is also noted. Text highlighted in red is important information to indicate a major error or a change in rubric from 2013 to 2015 (special education) Comments are made in the following locations:
