Evaluation Question 3 Jamie Beveridge
2
Audience Feedback In order for our group to receive feedback about our trailer, we produced a questionnaire for focus group, to give us an idea of how audiences would react to the trailer. In the questionnaire, we included both open and closed questions, in order to give us a range of both the informed opinions we would receive from open questions, and the easily quantifiable, but less in-depth answers from closed questions. The implementation of internet and social networking sites were useful in presenting our products to people outside of the focus group who were able to give us their thoughts on the trailer and ancillary products. Further feedback was provided to us by the staff we worked with. Having two media staff around to help us and provide us with areas in which we could change and improve to the best of our ability was invaluable in the creation each of the elements of our promotional package. They helped us to upload the products so that we could display them to a wider audience than the focus group, which helps us to gather more information and feedback from the audiences we had shown our product to.

In our questionnaire used a variety of questions involving open and closed questions. Open questions are harder to collate as it takes up more time, but we get an informed answer rather than the limited answer one would receive from a closed question, which is easier to collate. Our focus group was comprised of people ranging between the ages of 16 and 19. We chose this age group because we classified our film as a 15 rating, so could not involve people below that age in reviewing the trailer. It was also a convenient group to use, as that is the age of the rest of the students in our class, who could give accurate feedback based on their knowledge of the genre and of media techniques. It is useful for media producers to identify and gain feedback from their target audience because being provided with constructive criticism is beneficial in aiding producers in improving their packages using the information provided by. the audiences in the feedback. With the critiques given to the producer, they can work with the information suggested by the focus group and make a more acceptable film to a higher standard than that of their original one. In including the changes suggested by the focus groups, producers have the possibility of gaining more backing for the construction of their product. Receiving positive feedback from focus groups is beneficial in making your own evaluation of how well the products work and how the ancillaries work together to create the promotional package, as well as evaluating which elements appealed to the focus group. As a group we received gradual feedback throughout the creation of our promotional package from staff and the rest of our group. We received feedback regarding aspects of our production, such as editing, being helped with ideas of how we could make the trailer look less of an opening tile sequence, and how we could add elements that would make it seem more like the neo-noir film we set out to make. We also discussed with the staff the idea of reshooting scenes, before settling with the shots we had already filmed. We received feedback from each other in the group, discussing thoughts that we had, and meeting to show our ideas and critiques to one another, which helped us to settle on ideas for each element of the promotional package comfortably, with everyone having been heard and everyone’s contributions being considered. Our tutor was beneficial in providing feedback as he would frequently read the blogs and leave comments suggesting ways that we could improve the work we were undertaking. By giving the class questionnaires to fill out regarding our trailer, we were able to see first hand what our target audience would think of our production, and see if they could follow the narrative and recognise the pastiches we had included. This feedback was instrumental as we were able to view the questionnaires and view what our peers thought we had done well in our trailer.
