4. What does plural mean? ¿Qué significa plural? More than 1 of something Más de uno de algo

5. What does singular mean? ¿Qué significa singular? One of something Uno de algo

6. Just like in English, we modify our nouns to show when there is more than one involved. In English, most of the time we simply add S to the end of the word. There are LOTS of exceptions to that rule in English, though! 

7. Rules and Exceptions Spanish has only 3 rules and 2 exceptions to those rules. It’s pretty easy to remember once you get the hang of it...

8. Rule #1 If a word ends with a vowel, you simply add S to the end of the word. abrazo  gato  maestro  oso  pollo  maestra 

9. Rule #2 If a word ends with a consonant, you add ES to the end of the word. canción  actor  doctor  papel  coraz ón 

10. Exceptions A. Any word that ends with a Z must change the Z to a C and then follow Rule #2. l ápiz  B. The article el (which means “the”) does not follow Rule 1 or Rule 2. It changes to los.

11. Rule #3 Don’t forget, if you change a word’s number, you have to change the article before the word so it all matches! el  la 
