The schedule for the removal/re-installation of FPIX March 05 extraction PLUS Z SIDE March 19 extraction MINUS Z SIDE March 26-31 re-installation of PLUS Z SIDE April 09 re-installation of MINUS Z SIDE Passed the WPA with tech coord. Tech coord wants a single document that starts with the removal of the alignment ring and finishes with the pixel extracted (Salvatore is editing it). Procedures and manpower available at: Procedure : https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/CMS/PixelShutdown0809/InstallationProcv1_4.pdf https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/CMS/PixelShutdown0809/InstallationProcv1_4.pdf Manpower: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/CMS/PixelShutdown0809/Personnel-ricardo.pdfhttps://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/CMS/PixelShutdown0809/Personnel-ricardo.pdf Overall the situation seems to be under control. Mauro, Pasquale, Gino, Ricardo Danek etc… would like to have the transportation from P5 to TIF on Thursday (delivery on Friday) instead of Friday (delivery on Saturday). I already announced it last week at the tech coord meeting – Crane availability Seems to be OK but ES have some concerns If we want to go this way we would like to disconnect the PLUS Z side on Wednesday late afternoon (into the evening). This would add some safety to the transportation to TIF Trucks not allowed during the w-e – If not Friday night than Monday To be discussed tomorrow at tech coord. The work on the cooling plant is planned since the end of 2008. It can be split into two components Increase easiness of operation and safety: – Move the tank up a floor (rely on gravity and not on a pressurized GAS system) – Replace Manual bypass valve with a BPR Large enough o swallow the whole flow from the pump. – Replace the pressure regulating valve with a bigger one Large enough o swallow the whole flow from the pump. – Improve the degassing system (already rather good) Leak tightness – Change the distribution lines (as in the Strip cooling plant) Components of the distribution lines (TA valves and plastic hoses to calibrated orifices) are made with materials or technology Concerns were raised about leaks on the shutoff valves after disconnect/reconnect to the flanges – Overall checks of the status of the plant We always considered the first component mandatory and the second one optional being the pixel system never leaked much (~1/2 Kg/day). Piping work inside the cooling plant finished on Feb 20 th New pressure regulating valve is installed since the middle of february The pump and BPR (back Pressure regulator) are being installed today (delays on delivery but irrelevant) Piping work from the cooling plant to the tank (up a floor) is finished (Wednesday Feb 25) Leak search of the cooling plant (alone) – Sometimes this week in parallel with the distribution lines work Cooling plant (1) 2/25/201610

Decision on what to do with the distribution lines. Large fruitful discussion Feb 25. If old cooling lines stays we start commissioning the cooling plant in stand alone mode. If not we need to modify the cabinet (enlargement) so that the new distribution lines fit. This is a two phase program: Phase 1. Implement the necessary modifications to host the new lines (URGENT): – Move and Modify the support brackets – Modify the roof of the cabinet Phase 2 get the new walls for the cabinet installed (NOT URGENT) – This is needed only for COLD operation that is not foreseen before the middle of April. Install and braise the new cooling lines (18+18). Starts next week the braising process requires inert gas flow and we want to avoid piping this gas into the detector The minus Z side (top lines at the plant) of the detector will be disconnected this week (Thursday or Friday) and bypass hoses installed The Plus Z side (bottom lines at the plant) of the detector will be disconnected next week (Tuesday or Wednesday) and bypass hoses installed On overall if we install the new lines than we need one more week than scheduled and we will be ready only on April 6th Cooling plant (2) to do 2/25/201611

Cooling plant stand alone. Find and fix any possible leak. Start the pump (all lines CLOSED) (bypass hoses anyway). Measure the setting point of the pressure switch (2.5 bar nominal). – Tuning if needed. Measure and tune the setting point of the back pressure regulator (BPR) Check and retune (if necessary) the time response of the feedback system to the pressure regulating valve (remember it is a new valve) Cooling plant with bypass hoses (This starts with a plant running stable at 2 bar). Open one loop at the time (shutoff) with the Swagelock closed Open the swagelock slowly to nominal position (flow established) – Repeat for all FPIX lines. During these operation we will need the cooperation of the TS-CV personal that handles the PLC code. Cooling plant (3) to do (commissioning) 2/25/201612

CAEN backboard modification – Finished PP1 splicing of two fibers – Given up on this under the advice of Jan Troska – These fibers are (at this point) spare fibers and they might be needed for the upgrade. Keep them in the to-do list for another shutdown New Humidity sensor to be installed in FPIX. – The sensors (HS2000) exist and Lalith will be here starting this w-e – It is decided to read them out through Andromachi Tracker Monitor PLC – The wires from the detector to the PIXEL PLC exist already – New wires have to be stringed from the PIXEL PLC to Machi’s PLC Documentation is final (connectors and pinout) Machi’s team will do the cabling – Machi will do the necessary work to enlarge the capability of the PLC (new modules) – Data will be available in PVSS FED daughter boards fixation – This week Manfred, Karl, Danek and Josh will tackle this minor modification Others (minor things if you like) 2/25/201613

We have a very good plan for the next couple of months! We have very talented and experienced people that will do the job. We also have younger members that are new to these tasks. Always think about safety of the personnel and of the equipment while you perform your job. Many of us working at P5 on VME/CAEN and DCS do not have the proper electrical safety training. – Consider joining the training on March 19 Send e-mail to me and Christoph Schafer if you want to join We should take this as an example. – Comunication in CMS is not always optimal. Cooperation from each of us is welcome. (use hypernews to post training that you think might be useful to the member of the pixel community). General remarks 2/25/201615Gino Bolla Tracker day

In 3 weeks from now we need to be ready for checkout the re-connected detector In about 6 weeks (mid april) from now the re-commissioning phase will start as well. 4 weeks if no change in T 8 weeks if we go colder (??) This is a sizable effort for our community It is also the beginning of a continuous coverage of operation at P5 Your help will be needed for shift and expert coverage. It is time to setup again a tool to handle shifts. General remarks 2/25/201616Gino Bolla Tracker day
