2 Construction Activity 1  To construct things, you have to use a compass. These are used to make tic marks and circles.  To construct a midpoint, put the slider on the compass a little over halfway. Place the circle of the compass on the end point, and swoop up and down. After doing this on both endpoints, it should create two x’s. line up the x’s with a straight edge and draw a small mark on the line. This should be the midpoint.  To construct a perpendicular bisector, follow the same steps as when constructing a midpoint, only making a straight line all the way through the x’s and the line.  To construct an angle bisector, place the compass on the vertex. Make one tic mark on each line on the angle. Next, put the compass on the tic mark that was drawn, making another tic mark above the mouth of the angle. Do this on each side, and an x should form. Draw a line through the center of the x and through the vertex. The angle is now bisected.

3 Construction Activity 2  To construct polygons, you must also use the compass. Before constructing anything, you must make a point to be used as the diameter of the circle to place the circle of the compass on.  To make an equilateral triangle, follow step 1, and draw a circle as large as desired. Using a straight edge, draw a small mark anywhere on the circle lined up like a diameter. Using the compass, place the circle of the compass where the tic mark and circle cross, and then make tic marks all around the circle for a total of six tic marks. Choose three out of the six marks, connect them, and it should make a triangle.  Constructing a hexagon is similar to constructing a triangle. The difference is, instead of only connecting three of the tic marks, you connect all six of the tic marks. This creates a hexagon.  To construct a star, follow the exact same steps as constructing a triangle. Choose three points, and connect them. The only extra step is then connecting the last three tic marks to for two equilateral triangles on top of each other.  To draw a square, first draw the circle with the point in the middle. Next, draw a diameter through the circle, and perform a perpendicular bisector. This should create a giant X in the circle. Connect the points where the lines meet the circle, and it forms a perfect square.
