2 Adding –ed means past tense or that something has already happened. Rules of adding -ed When a short vowel is followed by one consonant at the end of the base word, double the last consonant before adding – ed. Silent final e must be dropped from the base word before adding -ed. VVC words do not change before adding - ed.
