Stumptown kid by Carol Gorman and Ron J.Findley By Ashton

Setting The setting is in Holden, Iowa in 1952

Characters Charlie Nebraska is the main character. He is very nice kid who loves to play baseball. His dad died in the war and he misses him a lot. Luther Peale is an important character in the story. He is a black man who was a professional played in the negro league. Brad Lobo is the town bully and he picks on Charlie. He also is a good baseball player.

Plot The plot is Charlie meets a black man named Luther. Segregation is a problem in their town and it’s hard for them to be friends. Luther was a professional baseball player and teachers Charlie about baseball.

Conflict One conflict is that there is segregation during the time so it is very unusual for Charlie and Luther to be friends in their town. Another conflict is between Charlie and Lobo. Lobo is the town bully and teases Charlie and one time Charlie beats him up.

Solution I am half way through the book so I do not know the solution. I’m guessing that at the end of the book Charlie’s dad might come back, the town learns to love Luther and their team is amazing at baseball.
