2
What you will learn! How to draw translations, rotations, and reflections on a coordinate plane.
3
TransformationTranslation Reflection Line of symmetry Rotation
4
What you really need to know! A movement of a geometric figure is a transformation. There are three types of transformations.
5
Translation: you slide a figure from one position to another without turning it. Translations are also called slides.
6
Reflection: you flip a figure over a line. The figures are mirror images of each other. Reflections are also called flips.
7
Rotation: you turn the figure around a fixed point. Rotations are also called turns.

Example 1: The vertices of ∆ABC are A(-3,7), B(-1,0), and C(5,5). Graph the triangle and the image of ∆ABC after a translation 4 units right and 5 units down.

Example 2: The vertices of a figure are M(-8,6), N(5,9), O(2,1) and P(-10,3). Graph the figure and the image of the figure after a reflection over the y-axis.

Example 3: A figure has vertices A(-4,5), B(-2,4), C(-1,2), D(-3,1), and E(-5,3). Graph the figure and the image of the figure after a rotation of 180°.
