Changing States Today’s Goal:
To understand and identify the three states of water: solid, liquid, and gas. To learn how water molecules can change between these three states.
2
Changing States Water is made up of molecules. Molecules are tiny (microscopic) particles.
3
Changing States A water molecule is made up of three atoms.
2 Hydrogen (H) atoms & 1 Oxygen (O) atoms
4
Changing States Water covers 75% of the Earth.
5
Changing States Water can exist in three states Solid Liquid Gas
6
Changing States The energy from the sun causes water to evaporate into a gas. Boiling water on the stove can also cause water to change from a liquid to a gas.
7
Changing States Melting ice cubes is an example of water changing from a solid to a liquid.
8
Changing States Condensation is when water changes from a gas to a liquid.
9
Changing States Water freezes as it changes from a liquid to a solid.
10
Changing States Water becomes frost when it changes from a gas to a solid.
