How do mice react in different types of temperature? By: Austin Kim #15 7 th grade
3
Hypothesis Hot Temperature The hot temperature test may make the mouse less active in order to save energy. It may also make them drink plenty of water to stay refreshed. Cold Temperature The cold temperature test may make the mouse more active in order to keep warm. The mouse may also burrow in the bedding to stay warm.
4
Purpose The purpose of this experiment was to see how the mice would react in different temperatures and which would be best for them.
5
Materials 2 mice (Black and White, Albino) Big metal tub (5 gallon) Thermometer Experimental box Ice cubes (3 dozen) 7 Ice packs Heat blanket Bedding Food Water feeder Running wheel Empty toilet paper roll (shelter) Camera Video Recorder Paper and Pen (For writing notes)
6
Procedure Cold Temperature First, we filled the metal tub with four gallons of water and we threw in 3 dozens of ice cubes with seven ice packs. Then, we filled the experimental box with all the item essential to the mice and we put it in the metal tub. Next, we got the mice, gently put it in, and watch their behavior for ten minutes. Then, I jotted down a lot of notes on both of the mice's behavior. After 10 minutes I gently put the mice back in their cage and got the Hot Temperature experiment started. Hot Temperature First, we got the experimental box and put it on top of a heat blanket. Then, we put the mice into the experimental box and watch their behavior for ten minutes. Then, we wrote notes for both of the mice. After the 10 minutes I gently put the mice back in their cage.

Result/Conclusion My hypothesis was proven incorrect. During the Hot Temperature experiment, both of the mice burrowed into the bedding and stayed in there. They didn’t drink water, eat, or exercise. During the Cold Temperature experiment, both of the mice was very active. The black and white mouse drank water, exercised, and ate food. The albino mouse just burrowed into the bedding and slept.
