Why make a quilt? Quilts are a staple piece to many families and a symbol of warmth and security. Quilt making is becoming a lost art.

Step 1- Decide Your Pattern 9 patch Log Cabin Around The World 4 patch These instructions specify on how to make a 4 patch baby quilt. 9-Patch Pattern Log Cabin Pattern All around the World 4 Patch Quilt Block

Step 2 – Gather the Materials Fabric for top, backing, and border Batting Scissors Thread Sewing Machine A GOOD seam ripper A ruler

Step 3 – Cut Fabric to the correct sizes 60 4 ½ squares (2 Colors of choice) 15 8 ½ squares (Solid color)

Step 4 – Create the Quilt Top Sew 2 of the 4 ½ squares together Repeat Sew the 2 sets of two together to form a square Iron the squares

Step 4 - Continued Sew an 8 ½ square next to the 4 (4 ½) Repeat until you run out of quilt squares

Step 5 – Add the Borders 2 ½” wide strips around the entire top

Step 6 – Add the Batting Lay stretched fabric backing face- down Cut batting a little larger than top Lay stretched quilt top face-up on top of the batting

Step 7 – Pin and Sew Tightly stretch the 3 layers out Pin the 3 layers together Sew the layers together in vertical and horizontal sewing lines approx. 2” apart Remove the pins as you sew

Step 8 – The Binding Buy quilt binding Double Fold Quilt Binding (.875” wide) or Make your own by cutting a 2” wide strip

Step 9 - Enjoy Example of a finished project.

Helpful Hints Make sure your seams are uniform Go Slow Iron ALL seams as you go Cut uniform squares
