You don’t need to raise your hand but refer to the above- grin. Be respectful of one another. Once we start class, please stop the chit chat and focus on the material. It is distracting to me and your classmates. The seminars ARE graded so either attendance and participation or the make up quiz is required. You need to be in attendance and participate for the entire hour to receive credit. If you have to arrive late or leave early it is not a problem, email me privately after class and I will let you know if you need to take the make up quiz to receive credit. If you have another class right after this one, you can leave at 10 minutes to the hour. Each seminar is worth up to 15 pts.

Late Policy First, try your best not to get behind and then you won’t even need to know this. The discussions require classmate interaction so they must be completed during the unit week. The quizzes need to be completed during the unit week as it is possible to see the answers once the unit ends so it would not be fair to allow someone to take the quiz at that point. The textbook exercises can be turned in late, but to be fair to the whole class I will use the late policy point deductions from the syllabus whether it is an extenuating circumstance or not. So if you are late it will not be worth full credit. The final exam and the unit 10 writing assignment must be turned in by the last day of the term. You can not submit either after the term ends. You can turn in the writing assignment early to get it out of the way if you would like to. I am also allowed to score the writing assignment early and post your points.

Late Policy Deductions Please note that evaluation of extenuating circumstances is at the discretion of your instructor and documentation may be required for verification of the extenuating circumstance. Examples of extenuating circumstances may include but are not limited to: personal/family member hospitalization, death in the family, weather/environmental evacuation due to fire/hurricane, or active military assignment where internet connectivity is unavailable for a limited time period. Computer-related issues and internet connectivity issues are not considered extenuating circumstances. Late Penalty Deductions are as follows on the textbook exercises: · Up to one week (1-7 calendar days) late 20% deduction in points. · After one week (8-14 calendar days) late 30% deduction in points. · No work will be accepted more than two (2) weeks after the due date. · Late work must be submitted prior to the last day of the course. · Final projects will not be accepted after the due date established in the course.

Discussion Board Information It is important to expand past the textbook by interaction with me and your classmates each week on a discussion topic. The discussions are closed by the college at the end of each unit so you need to have your work posted prior to the unit closing. There are a few basic guidelines – both written in the syllabus and un- written and they are as follows: The Discussion Board Requirement: Students are to post a minimum of three posts per discussion thread. One initial response and two replies to their classmates Posting on a minimum of three different days, for example: Wednesday, Friday and Monday The first initial response to the discussion question must be made by Saturday. The initial response must be at least 100 words long. The classmate replies must be at least 50 words long each. Your initial response must fully answer all the questions posted in the assignment, remember the 100 word is a minimum.

The Grading Rubric is for discussion topics, which are the Professional Development Activity in unit 1 and the weekly discussions in units 2 through 9. Quality (40%) of your post will be measured on the following criteria: All assigned discussion questions were answered completely Posts were on topic and unique in content All posts demonstrated analysis of the topic Participation Guidelines (30%) will be measured on the following criteria: Initial post no later than Saturday, midnight EST Posts made to each discussion question on at least 3 different days The original post to be no less than 100 words Clarity and Organization of Writing (20%) of your post will be measured on the following criteria: Posts were organized and logical No spelling or grammatical errors References were used and cited properly Professional & Netiquette (10%) in your post will be measured on the following criteria: Respect and consideration toward peers/instructors Appropriate language Professional use of abbreviations and acronyms

Wrap Up The quizzes are only open during the unit week, can only be accessed once during that unit week, have a 1 hour time limit, consist of 10 multiple choice questions and are worth up to 20 points each (units 2 – 9). The final exam opens in unit 10 and closes on the last day of the term. It is worth up to 105 points, can only be accessed once, has a 2 hour time limit and consists of 35 multiple choice questions. A copy of each chapter from the textbook chapter is located in doc sharing. You will find audio tutorials under the reading link in each unit. Each unit has tons of additional resources which you need to take a few minutes to review. You most likely won’t find the need to use all of them but they are right at your finger tips if you want them. Look around and click on them to see what the college has placed there for you to us – it is good stuff!

QUESTIONS?????

Ready for a Short Review? Let’s see what you remember from Accounting I

Assets, Liab and Equity Assets are things we own. What would a business own? Building, cash, equipment Liabilities are things we owe. What would a business owe? Loans, payroll not paid... Equity is the difference between the two. What we own minus what we owe. The basic Accounting Equation is: A = L + OE

Debit versus Credit Right side versus the left side. Which side is which? Which accounts normally have a debit balance? Which accounts normally have a credit balance? The hand trick – what is it?

Financial Statements Which accounts will we find on the balance sheet? Which accounts will we find on the income statement? What does each statement tell us?

Thank you!! Thank you so much for coming to class tonight. I hope I didn’t leave you with a headache. Make sure you email me if you have any questions – any questions at all. I will try my very best to help you out and answer anything I can.
