SPORTS AND RECREATION People have enjoyed sports and recreational activities for their leisure time. The industry has grown in the past years now it offers a variety of opportunities, challenges, and career choices. Ancient history: Greece was the first to have sports related activities and build sports facilities,778 B.C was when the first Olympic games took place in Athens. Later History: In the past the wealthy had enjoyed organized sports and recreation The 1700s the sports have changed to racing,cricket, rugby, and soccer were the earlier activities. During the 1800s the united states formed their professional leagues. Baseball was established in 1870s,the first golf and tennis tournaments took place in the1930s

CATEGORIES OF SPORTS Amateur sports- athletic activities and competition's done without getting paid ex. Youth sports, high school sports. Youth sports: localized sports programs ex. the little league, gives friends to play with each other and build teamwork. High school sports: focuses on team spirit and the supporter are the players coaches, parents encourage the students to balance academic success. College sports: large universities offer sports options.

PROFESSIONAL SPORTS Professional sports: sports that athletic activities include regional national and international events ex. World cup, super bowl. Income and regulation: the professional athletes are paid millions based on that the events produce billions of dollars. They are compensated by the team,franchise and sponsors.

OTHER SPORTS International sports: played in more than one nation the Olympics play a major role in international sports. Extreme sports: they are spots that are nontraditional ex. Skate boarding, surfing, BMX Sport disabilities: The Paralympic games crated for the veterans of world war 2. Paralympic: games where the athletes with physical disabilities showcase there talents. Special Olympics: began in 1968 provide a venue fore adults and children with mental issues.

OLYMPIC GAMES The games was in Greece in the 9 th century treaty made between three kings. The fist competition took place in 776 B.C

RELEVANCE FOR TODAY Raise awareness and encourage leader to act in favor op peace. Mobilize youth for the promotion of the Olympic ideals. Establish contact between communities in conflict. Offer humanization support in countries at war.

CAREERS Sports agencies, facilities,broadcasting and associations. Agencies: sports agents that employ the coaches

FACILITIES Marketing director; designing the market PR facility director: positive relationship between the community. Event director: manages everything with the planning. Booking director: rents the facilities. Operation director: supervising the shows Box office director :handles sales Concession manager: provides the food

7.2 NOTES Events and Entertainment 1. The importance of Events- ● People gather to celebrate events ● The earliest events consist of myths, legends or rituals pertaining to specific cultures ● Public and private events are sources of revenue for H&T

PUBLIC EVENTS Public events can be categorized in many different ways ● They are Size and Purpose ● There are 3 main types of Events ● They are Mega-Events, Hallmark Events Major Events ● There are many reasons for these public events, they are: ○ Political Events ○ Cultural Events ○ Military Events ○ Tourist Attractions ○ Colleges and universities ○ Non Profit organizations ○ Consumer Shows

ENTERTAINMENT Today's entertainment industry caters to a wide variety of cultures, ages, interests, and income levels. ● Music ○ Music Tours ○ Recordings ● Television ○ Jobs in television ● Movies ○ Jobs in film ● Radio ○ Jobs in radio
