1. 6.4 Areas of Other Figures Find the area of a trapezoid and irregular figures by using formulas of familiar figures.

2. Trapezoid  A quadrilateral that has exactly one pair of parallel sides  The two parallel sides are the bases of the trapezoid with lengths b 1 and b 2.  The height, h, is the length of a perpendicular segment connecting the bases.

3. Area of a Trapezoid  If you put two identical trapezoids together, you get a parallelogram.  The area of this parallelogram is (b 1 +b 2 )h  So the area of 1 trapezoid is half of that

5. Irregular Figures  Even when a figure is not a shape you recognize, you can find the area by separating it into several familiar figures.  Ex:  There is more than one way to do this
