4
Differences There are clearly differences between the types of organisations on the list. Can you put the organisations into 3 groups?
5
Public A public organisation is one that is funded by the government either locally (Cambridge County Council or EEDA) or nationally from central government (DCSM: Dept for Culture, Media and Sport). Their aim is usually to provide a service to the public. They are not judged by their financial result, as they do not make a profit. They are judged on numbers accessing their service. Can you identify any public organisations?
6
Private Most organisations in the tourism industry are privately owned in some way: (private limited company, sole trader, cooperative, public limited, franchise). Although there are key differences within this category they are aim to make a profit. All theme parks, restaurants, tour operators and travel agents in the UK are privately owned. Can you identify any private organisations?
7
Voluntary Voluntary groups are usually charities or causes that have an aim which does not include making a profit. Any money they make will be reinvested in the aims of the group. They will rely on some people giving up their time- volunteering their services to help with their cause, but they probably will also have a small number of employees. Can you identify any voluntary organisations?
