DOC ID 3 ETC/Technical Computing Why ChevronTexaco joined the WITSML SIG We consider WITSML to be the most compelling activity currently in POSC but follow through on all sides is important Impressed by the vendor interaction Impressed by standards that are working Real implementations, not just theory We want to utilize Web services Important standard for exchange of data Well data starts at the rig, but not all is real time

DOC ID 6 ETC/Technical Computing Future Directions Using WITSML vendor servers for some deep water drilling projects for MWD/LWD. Plan increased take-up. Geoscientists & engineers to look for data using a web browser. Use web services where possible to get data. Needed to have a well bore mechanical viewing tool integrated into our new decision support system. Our desire was to buy this tool as we had purchased a log viewing tool. But… we wanted to use an industry standard for providing the data to the viewing tool.

DOC ID 7 ETC/Technical Computing What we are doing with WITSML Integrate the well bore mechanical tool with an existing log viewer The only tools we could find at the time were thick clients Would need to have a vendor develop the tool Observed the success that WITSML was having with the vendor community We took a risk working with a vendor to develop the tool using a WITSML input specification Only problem… it did not fully exist

DOC ID 9 ETC/Technical Computing Vendor Implementation Entered a joint agreement to develop a phase 1 viewing tool with INT INT is working with POSC as part of a technical team to develop a draft standard for the completion data INT will follow me with more details about the tool
10
DOC ID 10 ETC/Technical Computing Summary Gained experience working with and furthering the develop of a WITSML specification Expect benefits from a commercial tool We will be able to develop adaptors for our various data stores We see opportunities for data bridging vendors to provide adaptors Hope to eventually purchase adaptors to commercial data stores We see opportunities for data visualization vendors to receive data in a standard way For the consumer, multiple choices and easier integration
