Zoom and Pan1 Sacramento City College Engineering Design Technology
2
Zoom and Pan2 Objectives u Use real-time zoom and pan u Magnify a small part of the drawing to work on details u Move the display window to reveal portions of the drawing outside the boundaries of the monitor. u Explain the differences between the REDRAW command and the REGEN command.
3
Zoom and Pan3 Regenerating the Screen The REGEN Command
4
Zoom and Pan4 Redrawing/Regenerating the Screen u To regenerate the drawing, REGEN is used. u REGEN u recalculates all of the drawing object coordinates and u regenerates the display based on the current zoom magnification.
5
Zoom and Pan5 Redrawing/Regenerating the Screen u AutoCAD u Uses line segments to represent all drawing entities on the screen. u If you are zoomed in, circles may appear to have straight line segments u Use REGEN to change them to smooth curves.
6
Zoom and Pan6 Use REGEN to change to smooth circle

8 Commands That Can be Used While “Inside” Other Commands The “Transparent Commands”
9
Zoom and Pan9 Transparent Commands u Several commands can be used “inside” or “in the middle of” another command. u They are called transparent commands.
10
Zoom and Pan10 Transparent Commands u Transparent Commands u REDRAW u PAN u VIEW u HELP u Several ZOOM options
11
Zoom and Pan11 Transparent Commands u To execute a “transparent” command: u Enter the transparent command preceded by an apostrophe. u While in another command, type: u ‘Zoom All [Enter] u The zoom command executes and you remain inside the previous command.
12
Zoom and Pan12 The ZOOM Command
13
Zoom and Pan13 Zooming u Several ZOOM options exist. u In u Out u Extents u Center u Dynamic u Window u Scale u Previous u All u XP
14
Zooming u Very useful u All u Previous u Extents u Window u XP u Not so useful u In u Only works on TB u Out u Only works on TB u Center u Too many steps u Magnification value input required u Dynamic u Was very useful prior to wheel mouse. u Scale u Magnification/scale required Zoom and Pan14
15
Zoom and Pan15 Zoom u Zoom ALL: “Z space A space” u Zooms to display drawing limits u If objects are larger than the limits, a ZOOM EXTENTS is executed. u Always use a ZOOM ALL after you change the drawing limits. u Zoom PREVIOUS: “Z space P space” u Returns to the previous display.
16
Zoom and Pan16 Zoom u Zoom EXTENTS:“Z space E space” u EXTENTS u Is the portion of the drawing area that contains drawing objects. u The result of this command is conditional u 1. If all drawing objects are inside the LIMITS u Zooms to the LIMITS of the drawing. u LIMITS = EXTENTS u 2. If drawing objects are outside the LIMITS u Zooms to EXTENTS of the drawing. u LIMITS <> EXTENTS
17
Zoom and Pan17 Zoom u Zoom WINDOW: “Z space W space” u Pick opposite corners of a box. The box becomes the next display. u This is the default zoom option if you pick a point on the screen.
18
Zoom and Pan18 Zoom u Zoom XP: u This option is used in conjunction with Model Space and Paper Space. u Is used primarily in the layout of scaled multi- view drawings prior to plotting u It scales a Paper Space viewport (which displays Model Space) relative to Paper Space.
19
Zoom and Pan19 Zoom u Zoom IN: u Available ONLY on the tool bar. u Automatically executes a 2x zoom scale factor. u Zoom OUT: u Available ONLY on the tool bar. u Automatically executes a 0.5 zoom scale factor.
20
Zoom and Pan20 Zoom u Zoom CENTER: u Pick the center and height of the next screen display. u A magnification factor can be entered by typing a number followed by an X. u The current value represents the height of the screen in drawing units. u Entering a smaller number enlarges the image size; u a larger number reduces image size.
21
Zoom and Pan21 Zoom u Zoom DYNAMIC: u Allows for a graphic pan and zoom with the use of a view box that represents the screen.
22
Zoom and Pan22 Zoom u (Zoom) SCALE: u You can enlarge/reduce display by typing an X after the scale. u Type 2X if you want the image enlarged two times u Type 0.5X if you want image reduced by 1/2.
23
Zoom and Pan23 Moving Around the Display Screen The PAN Command
24
Zoom and Pan24 PANing Around the Screen u The PAN command allows you to move your view point around the drawing without changing the magnification factor. u Command: Pan or (P) u Hit [Enter] to exit Pan.
25
Zoom and Pan25 PANing Around the Screen u A REALTIME PAN allows you to see the drawing as you pan. u Pick PAN or RTPAN commands u OR u Pick Real Time from the PAN cascading menu u OR u Pick the Pan Realtime button on the Standard toolbar.
26
Zoom and Pan26 PANing Around the Screen u Hold the left mouse button and move the mouse in the direction you wish to pan. u Exit command with right-click menu.
27
Zoom and Pan27 PANing Around the Screen u You can also use the Pan Presets. u Left u Right u Up u Down
28
Zoom and Pan28 PANing Around the Screen u You can also use the Scroll Bars to Pan. u Left u Right u Up u Down
