5 Task 1 Reflection Looking at your self-evaluation sheet, discuss your thoughts about Task 1 in groups. - What did you learn about yourself through Task 1? - What were your strengths in this presentation? - What do you still need to improve on? - If you could do the task again, what would you do differently? - On a scale of 1 (bad) – 10 (excellent), how would you rate your overall performance in Task 1? - Did you notice an improvement over your practice presentation?

7 Disagreeing - Something many people hate to do, BUT …something necessary to a productive discussion. - If everyone agrees, you will only examine one side of the topic.

8 Disagreeing = Phrases “I’m sorry, I really can’t agree…” “I’m not so sure…” “I disagree with you/that” “Well, that’s one way of looking at it, but…” “I don’t really agree with that.”

9 Disagreeing = Phrases Remember, it’s not enough to only disagree. You should QUALIFY your disagreement. i.e., Dave: “If you ask me, Alaska should be Russian territory. There are historical documents to support this.” Dina: “I really can’t agree with that. If you closely examine documents from both Russia and the U.S., you will find that the American documents are much earlier than the Russian ones, therefore…
