UMBC Service-Learning Impact Survey Adapted from: Learn and Serve America Community Partner Survey of the American Association of Community Colleges 46 community partners invited 33 responses (72% response rate)

Partner Organization Characteristics 58% of respondents are education-based organizations 18% serve vulnerable populations/represent individuals with disabilities 53% identify as Nonprofit 43% identify as School-based/K-12 46% identify as medium sized based on budget and number of clients served ( with 27% serving up to 100 clients annually)

Assessment Process Methods of Partner Engagement Focus Group: focused on initial intent and content of survey Email: focused on question/survey review and revision; this method was used several times throughout the year to get on-going feedback for survey revisions On-line survey: for data collection Face-to-face meetings: focused on data interpretation and survey revisions Benefits of Partner Voice Survey revisions can better capture the work and impact of students Findings also reflect the desired learning of community partners, increasing potential for meaningful use

Findings Outcomes: 92% of respondents indicated students had direct service contact with clients Because of direct student contact, organizational capacity to serve was enhanced or there would have been no service delivered at all Categories of impact: educational achievement, health- related outcomes, socialization of vulnerable/marginalized populations Substantive, on-going partner engagement to ensure community voice

Next Steps Begin to address limitations of survey (e.g., explore other instruments; use more rigorous analysis methods) Continue on-going dialogue with partners to ensure community voice Continually revise survey questions to reflect partner feedback Implement survey in subsequent academic semesters
