3 Introduction ILC campus design (Central campus and IP campus) of ILC Laboratory is discussed in –ILC Infrastructure & Planning Working Group –CFS group Input from detector groups are necessary to clarify the requirements for facilities in each campus; –Laboratory space for final assembly and test of sub-detectors (Clean rooms) –Workshop and warehouse –Office space –Cafeteria –Dormitory –…………. These requirements depend on the assembly scenario of sub- detectors, and the number of people working at each campus Each sub-detector should clarify the assembly scenario and the requirements for these facilities 3

5 Central campus and IP campus We will have a central campus near Shinkansen station and a satellite (IP) campus just above the interaction point Area of IP campus is limited, while Central campus would have relatively large area There are two options of the location of Central campus –~30 km away from IP campus (~50 min by car) –~5 km away from IP campus (~10 min by car) –(cf. Distance between CMS and CERN ~15km, ~20min) Function of each campus for assembly of each sub- detector should be defined (for each option, if necessary) 5

9 Assembly hall For ILD, assembly hall is used for –Iron yoke assembly –Solenoid assembly and installation –Installation of HCAL, ECAL, and Muon detector –Field mapping Assembly and test of sub- detectors should be done in Central campus or in the research/office building in IP campus 9

13 ILD Si trackers Si trackers inside TPC – Inner tracking system –Vertex detector (VTX) –Silicon Inner Tracker (SIT) –Forward Tracking Disks (FTD) –VTX is supported from beam pipe –SIT, FTD, and beam pipe are supported from Inner Support Structure Si trackers outside TPC –Silicon External Tracker (SET) –Endcap Tracking Detector (ETD) –Supported from TPC or ECAL 13

20 Comparison of scenarios Examples –Belle-II SVD: (a la 1-a) Ladders are assembled in universities & institutes Ladders are shipped to KEK, and full barrel is assembled at KEK –CMS Silicon Tracker: (a la 2-b) TIB, TOB, TID, TEC are assembled in universities & institutes including CERN These modules are assembled into a Silicon Tracker at Tracker Integration Facility (350m 2 ) at CERN main campus Silicon Tracker is transported overnight to Point 5 for installation –ATLAS Inner Detector: (a la 2-a) Sensor modules are assembled in universities & institutes SCT barrel is assembled in Oxford University SCT barrel is shipped to CERN inner detector integration facility Less number of transport is preferable –Less risk of damage –Inspection/test is necessary after each transport But transportation is manageable –Many examples such as detectors for LHC It seems there is no show-stopper in every scenario 20 Shipping container for ATLAS SCT barrel CMS Silicon Tracker

21 Space requirement We could build Silicon Tracker Integration Facility either in Central campus (1-b, 1-c, 2-b) or IP campus (1-a, 2-a) Even in case of 1-b, 1-c, and 2-b, a similar space, which can be shared with other sub-detector, would be necessary for maintenance or temporally storage 21 5m (Small hoist here) 5m 15m VTXSITFTD ITS A possible layout of Silicon Tracker Integration Facility (150m 2 )

22 Si trackers outside TPC Assembly scenario depends on the support scheme –From TPC? (baseline in TDR) –From ECAL? We cannot draw the assembly scenario unless we decide the support scheme and the assembly scenario of supporting detector is clarified 22

23 Summary ILC laboratory will have Central campus and IP campus Requirements for facilities of each campus should be clarified for each sub-detector based on the assembly scenario ILD Si inner tracking system can have several options of the assembly scenario, and we have to continue discussion to decide the best way Assembly scenario of ILD outer Si trackers can be decided only after decision of supporting scheme and assembly scenario of the supporting sub-detector (TPC or ECAL) 23
