SKILL: Author’s Purpose Do you know why an author writes? These are the reasons an author writes something. Authors write to: Inform: If they want to give facts about something Persuade: If they want the reader to agree with their opinions or want the reader to take action Entertain: If they want their readers to think the story is funny, interesting, or suspenseful

STRATEGY: Monitor Comprehension
This means that good readers have to stop and check if they understand what they read. Good readers also have to stop if they do not understand something If they are confused, they reread, visualize, read ahead, summarize, slow down, or ask for help!
