DIVERSITY 99% of the students who attend the New Standard Academy are African American. We have five Caucasian students. Three students are listed as OTHER. There are no other ethnic groups in our building.

NEW STANDARD ACADEMY HISTORY The New Standard Academy opened in 2012 as a K-5 school. During this year they shared the building with the Catholic Powers High School. In 2013, the New Standard Academy took sole possession of the building. They added three Pre-K classes and three 6 th grade classes. For the 2014-15 school year, the New Standard Academy added two Head Start classrooms and three 7 th grade classes.

DEMOGRAPHICS 51% of the students in the New Standard Academy are females. 49% of the students in the New Standard Academy are males Kindergarten – 2 nd Grade all have 4 classes for each grade. Pre-K, 3 rd – 7 th grades have 3 classes for each grade. Head Start has two classes.

LEARNING DISABILITIES 40 of the New Standard Academy students have special needs.

FREE BREAKFAST AND HOT LUNCHES Every student in our building qualifies for a free breakfast and hot lunch.

FAMILY NEEDS Our school provides a backpack program. Our students who are homeless receives a backpack filled with food on Friday or the last day before a long holiday vacation. We feed 24 families every weekend, as well as the holidays. Out of our fund raising money, we purchase uniforms for students who cannot afford them.

ADDRESSING DIVERSITY Daycare Center Free preschool Extended day 7:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. Gifted and Talented Program After school programs to accommodate working parents Food drives to help feed our homeless families Teachers write grants to help pay for classroom items and field trips. Fund raisers to pay for incentives Teachers pay $2.00 a day to wear jeans, the money helps pay for things in our building Collect box tops for money Celebrate Black History Month Salute Martin Luther King Backpack food program for homeless Field trips
