Frankenstein Chps. 11-17 “The Creature’s Story” Quiz-20 points
2
At the beginning of the creature’s story, he tells Victor about how he learned some of the basic essentials of being alive and he describes a moment when he was very cold while wandering in the forest and he stumbled upon a fire left by some “wandering beggars.” He feels the heat from the fire and enjoys it so much that he thrusts his hands in the burning coals and burns himself. At this point, he comments…”how strange, I thought, that the same cause should produce such opposite effects!” How does this quote from the creature echo Victor’s experience at this part of the novel?
3
Most of the day’s reading focused on the creature telling the story of his “experience” with the DeLacey family. Describe some details that you remember from the reading regarding what the creature learns from them and how he “interacts” with them. For now, don’t worry about the tragic end to this relationship…that’s coming up later…
4
The end of the creature’s “relationship” with the DeLacey’s is both memorable and tragic; and it plays an important role in the creature’s “development.” What happens that ends his time with the DeLacey’s? (describe it in as much detail as you can offer…)
5
After leaving the DeLacey cottage, the creature swears that he will avoid interaction with humans forever. But then he encounters a young woman running by a river. What happens? AND—how does this experience play a MAJOR role in the creature’s “development?”
6
Finally, the creature makes his way to Geneva—and it turns out that Victor is right; his creature murdered his brother. Describe how it comes to pass that the creature murders William. Also, how did the creature “frame” Justine?
7
What is the creature’s request of Victor?
8
At this point of the novel, do you feel more compassion for Victor? Or, the creature? Explain.
