2. What is the ACELG? 01 April 09 PM announced $8mil to establish a new centre of excellence – in local gov. Purpose: Build on existing LG programs & networks Encourage innovation & best practice Foster good governance & strategic leadership Support workforce capability, address skills shortages assist attract & retain staff Promote new and improved training programs Stimulate debate Consortium led by Uni of Technology, Sydney (UTS). Partners include: Uni of Canberra, Aust & NZ School of Gov, LGMA, IPWEA. Other partners: ANU, Edith Cowan Uni and CDU.

4. The Role of CDU Working with ANU & Edith Cowan to lead Rural, Remote and Indigenous Australia program. ie Scoping study of small councils to identify priority needs and delivery options; Identify and prioritise local government issues in Northern Australia
