What is the ACELG? 01 April 09 PM announced $8mil to establish a new centre of excellence – in local gov. Purpose: Build on existing LG programs & networks Encourage innovation & best practice Foster good governance & strategic leadership Support workforce capability, address skills shortages assist attract & retain staff Promote new and improved training programs Stimulate debate Consortium led by Uni of Technology, Sydney (UTS). Partners include: Uni of Canberra, Aust & NZ School of Gov, LGMA, IPWEA. Other partners: ANU, Edith Cowan Uni and CDU.

The Role of CDU Working with ANU & Edith Cowan to lead Rural, Remote and Indigenous Australia program. ie Scoping study of small councils to identify priority needs and delivery options; Identify and prioritise local government issues in Northern Australia

CEO - PD and Selection Criteria CORE COMPETENCIES The core competencies expected of the Local Government Authority CEO position follow. Creates Vision and Gives Direction Develops People Manages Resources and Risks Promotes and Achieves Quality Outcomes Self Awareness and Self Management SELECTION CRITERIA 1.Leadership 2.Policy Implementation 3.Governance and Compliance 4.Financial Results 5.Community Development. 6.General Management Competencies 7. Qualifications and/or Experience A Degree or equivalent in a relevant tertiary Management, Business and/or Public Sector Administration discipline or comparable work experience is expected for this position.

Director Corporate & Community Qualifications and/or Experience: A Degree or equivalent in a tertiary Commerce or Business qualification or sufficient work experience at this level.
