The culture of Dubai and the whole of the UAE is based on Arabic and Islamic traditions. The UAE and Dubai are a forward looking society that is equally influenced by culture and heritage.

Emiratis live their lives based on Islam – their religion. This affects the way they live and think. The main values of Islam are; Justice Tolerance Peaceful coexistence Respect

Dubai wants to protect and promote its traditions. Following the core values above has helped Dubai become the traditional but progressive, open and tolerant city in which we live today.

Tolerance Dubai has always become famous for its tolerant outlook. The city has a reputation for being open to new ideas and ways of doing things. This has helped Dubai become a world leader in business, innovation and tourism. Islam’s tradition of tolerance and openness also allows many people from around the world to practice their own faiths as well – a demonstration of the UAE’s respect for diversity.

Discussion How would you define tolerance? Use a dictionary if necessary. Discuss a time when you had to be tolerant – maybe at school, at home or with a friend.

Co existence Dubai’s success is based on the vision and commitment of its leaders and the contributions of many people from all around the world who have decided to live and work in the country. This has created a blend of 150 nationalities that coexist peacefully together.

Discussion How many different nationalities are there in your class? Estimate and then investigate how many nationalities there are at VHPS. What do you think are the advantages of having so many nationalities at school together?

Respect Islamic and Arabian cultures like to value and respect everyone with dignity regardless of where they come from and who they are. In every part of life here – the clothes you wear, the way you talk to others, general behavior in public – these are all vital for self-respect and respect for others.
