Jakob Le Blon

WHO WAS HE? Jakob Le Blon was a French-Axon artist and engraver who was born at Frankfort on the Main, in 1670, and died at Paris in May 1741. In the first third of the eighteenth century, Le Blon invented and exploited a color-printing method to imitate paintings . He lived and worked as a miniature painter in Amsterdam where, in 1704, he made known his first attempts at colored mezzotinting.

color mezzotinting In this process of color mezzotinting, Le Blon made use of three different impressions, yellow, red, and blue (known as the RYB model) for one picture and was able to produce the different color values without using the color black. An example of color mezzotining.
4
LE BLON’S CREATION To create the system of three-color printing, he used the mezzotint method to engrave three metal plates (each one per printing ink) to make prints with a wide range of colors. With his new system, full-color prints could be created from just three colors: blue, yellow, and red, printed in that order with one on top of the other. He found out that this method was possible in 1710 while in Amsterdam. The colors formed with mixing red, yellow, and blue.
5
A full color print This is an example of the three color print. As we can see there are just three colors: blue, yellow, and red printed in that order, one on top of the other, with this final result.

HOW HAS HE INFLUENCED THE ARTS?
Jakob Le Blon’s methods and color theory helped form the foundation for modern color printing. A modern color printer.
7
Conclusion Though Jakob Le Blon met with limited financial success and his work has been greatly criticized, his work remains an important influence of modern CMYK color model. It stands for Cyon, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black)
