The Industrial Revolution reached the United States in the early 1800’s. Samuel Slater brought British technology to the United States in 1800. Francis Cabot Lowell brought all aspects of production under one roof beginning the factory system.

Transportation Revolution Daniel Boone led settlers west through the Cumberland Gap on the Wilderness Road. Companies built and maintained private roads called Turnpikes The National Road Extended from Maryland to Illinois. Robert Fulton developed the Steam Engine Canal System Erie Canal

Agriculture moved west with the settlers. Western farmers grew cash crops to be sold in eastern markets. In the South cotton production rose sharply creating an increased demand for slaves.
