Entering the Room Enter at voice level two Move quickly to your seat Get out materials and begin the Do Now If assigned a job, begin immediately after setting down your things Be in your assigned seat at start time to avoid being counted tardy Both cheeks of your bottom must be in your seat to avoid being counted tardy

5. Electronics It is school policy that you not have electronics out for personal use during school hours. HOWEVER I have permission to allow you to listen to music at certain times. I also have permission for you to use smart phones for research. The first time I catch electronics being used at inappropriate times or in inappropriate ways this will end for EVERYONE.

6. Exiting the Room The area around your desk must be clear of all debris and all materials must be put away in the designated places before you will be dismissed. Remain seated until I give you the indication that it is time to line up Exit the room at a voice level no higher than 2 Exit quickly so others may enter

7. Leaving During Class Class time is precious. All errands and bathroom trips should be done before school, after school, or at lunch. Should an EMERGENCY arise… Utilize one of your passes if you have one left. Wait for me to come to a natural stopping point and I will sign the pass for you. If you can turn in all passes at the end of the 9 weeks you will be able to drop your lowest quiz grade. Leave the room at voice level zero and continue to your destination quickly and quietly. Return promptly

8. Raise Your Hand Do this when you want to: 1.Ask a Question 2.Get out of your seat for any reason – sharpen pencils, throw away trash, get materials Do not speak or stand up until you are recognized. Do not make noises to get my attention. BE PATIENT! There are lots of other people in the room. I promise to get to you as quickly as I can.

9. When I Raise My Hand When I need your attention I will raise my hand and say, “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please?” The correct response is for you to raise your hand to show that you have heard me and take your voice level down to zero

10. Do Not Bring Gum Drinks other than water If you have these things in class I will throw them away. I do allow students to have occasional snacks IF it does not interfere with class work and IF there is NO trash or debris on the floor at the end of class.

11. The First 20 The first twenty minutes of class are mine. Do not expect to leave for any reason. This is not the time for sharpening pencils or getting materials. Rationale I will be presenting material during the first 20 that will be essential. I need your full attention!

12. Visitors There will be lots of visitors coming to our class this year. Expect to see the Principal, Assistant Principals, and other teachers. STAY ON TASK If they need your attention, I will let you know.

13. Free Days There are NO free days in room A-9 Time is Precious and so are you.

14. What if I make a Poor Behavior Choice? You have two learning opportunities after breaking a rule to correct your behavior. The third time you make a mistake you will have a write up for a minor offense which will result in an imposed consequence that will include a call home. Ms. Clary doesn’t play. PERIOD.

15. What is the Common Core? The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. 17. Grading Homework – 10% Class Work/Participation – 30% Quizzes – 30% Tests/Projects/Book Reports – 30%

18. Homework You can find your homework assignments in two places… 1.On the side board 2.On the class website: githens8languagearts@weebly.com You MUST write it down in your planner every day. Showing it to me is your pass out of class.

19. Class Work /Participation All work that we do in class is important. All in class assignments will be graded. IT IS PIVITOL THAT YOU STAY ON TASK For monitoring participation we will be using a program called Classroom Dojo. I will demonstrate this to you at a later time. Each week we will set behavior goals and track progress.

20. Quizzes Quizzes are OPPORTUNITIES Count on having a quiz EVERY Friday. You will have other Opportunities several times a week. Some will be announced and some will not.

21. Make Up Work If you are absent, make up work is due the Monday following the absence if you want full credit. If you simply fail to turn an assignment in you will get a zero. You can turn the assignment in late for a 69. This policy will change after the first 9 weeks.
