BOILER HOUSE CONDENSOR SHAFT PUMP CLEAN WATER IN THE BOILER THERMAL POWER STATION FUEL OR GAS STEAM TURBINE GENERATOR
3
THERMAL POWER STATION 1. Water in a boiler is heated using fuels such as diesel, gas, coal or by using solar energy 2. High pressure steam is produced in the boiler and is delivered to a turbine to obtain mechanical energy (turbine rotation). 3. The turbine shaft is coupled with the generator shaft to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. 4. Steam that comes out of the turbine is cooled down by passing it through a condensing unit (which is converted back into water and channeled back to the boiler).

CO-GENERATOR SYSTEM This kind of thermal system is called a co- generator system Steam pressure that passing through a turbine will be reduced in the condensor However, this steam is still capable of driving a small turbine The electricity is enough to support the electricity required by the thermal power station.

Real life example in Singapore Singapore uses Thermal Power Stations for the generation of electricity. Due to the fact that Singapore is a large island, the power plants are located near the sea

Coals are used as fuel for the generation of heat energy. As the water in the Boiler evaporated due to the intense heat, it becomes high- pressurized steams. And the steams are passing through a conduit (there is a turbine at the other end of the tunnel), it forces its way through the Turbine, thus rotating the Turbine. (As the steams are high-pressurized, the Turbine will rotate very fast.) The Turbine is connected to a Generator via a coupler. As the Turbine is rotating (from the force of the steams), electrical energy is being produced. After the steams have passed through the turbine, it enters a Condenser. The Condenser has got a cooling agent (namely seawater) and the steam will go through the cooling agent via a pipe. The steam thus changes back to its liquid form and returns to the Boiler. And the whole process repeats.

Carbon Power Plant, also known as Castle Gate Power Plant is a small, 190-MWe coal-fired power station in Utah, USA operated by PacifiCorp. Its units 1 and 2, rated at 75 and 113.6 MWe, were launched into service in 1954 and 1957.
