3 Candy Data  Here is the scientific data on the candy bag  There was a total of 79 pieces of candy in the bag initially.  13 Tootsie Rolls  8 Butterfinger Eggs  9 Milky Way  8 Twix  5 Tootsie Pop Suckers  11 Cadbury Eggs  25 Black Licorice Pieces  What was left after we all selected our candy? Let’s add up the numbers.

4 Which candy were selected to survive?  Make a list now of the traits of the candies that were selected to survive. These are the traits that allowed the candy to survive and not be eaten?

5 Natural Selection Comparison  What similarities could we find between this activity and the process of natural selection?  What differences could we find between this activity and the process of natural selection?

6 CANDY CONCLUSION  So, the fact that there were different candies with different traits resulted in some candies being eaten and others surviving. This is what natural selection does with individuals in a population. Each individual has unique traits; some traits will help an individual survive and some traits do not.
