3 Unit Summary Students study ancient Greece and relate it to modern life. They research an aspect of ancient times that has influenced American life and culture today. They create a publication or presentation about their topic and share it with an audience.

4 CFQs Essential Question: How does the past influence the future? Unit Question: How are the contributions of Ancient Greek society still shaping American life today? Content Questions: What form of government was used in Ancient Greece ? What is the Acropolis? What famous buildings in the US have a similar architecture? What is a myth? Who are philosophers? How are the Ancient Olympics similar to modern day Olympics?

8 Gauging Student Needs Assessments Purpose of the Assessment To find out what students already know about Ancient Greece and its impact on the US today What I want to learn from my students? I want to find out what they know already and what they are interested in learning.

9 Gauging Student Needs Assessments I can use the information from these assessments to: Focus on items that students have prior misconceptions about Plan activities in which they will answer their questions Form groups based on prior knowledge and interests Students can use the information from these assessments to: Guide their learning and research Identify areas where they would like to learn more about Greece
