First, a quick clip

Intro  The Civil War lasted from 1861-1865  There were five main causes of the Civil War: slavery, secession, Lincoln’s election, slave proponents, and the growth of abolishment  After the war, people started reconstruction, and led to Southern poverty and the emancipation proclamation

Slavery  Enslavement of the African-Americans in the US began in the 1630s-1640s and ended in the mid 1860s  Southerners needed slaves in the South more than the North needed  The 13 th amendment abolished slavery, which made the southerners mad

Secession  Secession is another main cause of the Civil War and was caused by a series the series of events as follows:

Lincoln’s Election  Abraham Lincoln became president in 1860  The south believed Lincoln was anti- slavery with more interests in the North states than them  Before he was elected, seven states already seceded from the union: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia

WAR!!!!!!!

Reconstruction  Just as important as the war  African-Americans had motivated hopes for full equality  Slaves were deprived of their full rights

The Emancipation Proclamation  Somewhat a law for slave owners  Banned slavery in the United States

The Jim Crow Laws  Linked to the period of reconstruction and southern poverty  Came into effect when Rutherford B. Hayes was elected  Explained the political economic and social rules  Caused railroad tracks, factories, and towns

Conclusion  The Civil War affected a lot of people  Caused reenactments of the war to be a hobby for most local people  Most likely to not be forgotten in US history
