Intro The Civil War lasted from 1861-1865 There were five main causes of the Civil War: slavery, secession, Lincoln’s election, slave proponents, and the growth of abolishment After the war, people started reconstruction, and led to Southern poverty and the emancipation proclamation

Slavery Enslavement of the African-Americans in the US began in the 1630s-1640s and ended in the mid 1860s Southerners needed slaves in the South more than the North needed The 13 th amendment abolished slavery, which made the southerners mad

Secession Secession is another main cause of the Civil War and was caused by a series the series of events as follows:

Lincoln’s Election Abraham Lincoln became president in 1860 The south believed Lincoln was anti- slavery with more interests in the North states than them Before he was elected, seven states already seceded from the union: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia
