2. Where the Strategy was found KWL is a popular strategy that can be found in a variety of places. I used a website called readingrockets.com. This website gives may strategies to help students in a variety of areas of reading, including comprehension, decoding, etc.

3. This strategy is supported by the following research KWL’s are a popular technique in reading, as well as other subjects. KWL’s have been found to be effective in activating student’s prior knowledge, as well as encouraging cooperative learning.

4. Description of the strategy KWL’s help students talk about what they already know about a topic. This is especially useful when teaching a non-fiction piece. A KWL chart is made and the “K” stands for what the students already know about a topic. This is a great anticipatory set. “W” stands for what the students want to know. “L” is done at the conclusion of the lesson to discuss what the students have learned.

5. Will this Strategy work best for one type of student over another KWL’s work great for all students. Every child can benefit from activating and sharing theor prior knowledge, discussing what they want o learn from a new story and then ultimately reviewing the new material. It really benefits learning disabled children because there is a visual graphic to refer back to throughout a lesson.

6. Why did you select this strategy I love KWL charts. I think they are an excellent way to get every student “up to bat”. It is a method that helps every child get ready to learn and start on the page. Students learn from not only the teacher, but from one another.
