How could the Holocaust have happened? How have Jewish people in the past been persecuted?

THINK Can you think of any instances in history (other than the Holocaust) when Jews have been persecuted?

Racial or Religious Persecution Persecution means the cruel or ill treatment of a person Racial persecution – persecuting someone on the grounds of their appearance e.g. Their race, hair, facial features etc Religious persecution – persecuting someone on the grounds of their religious beliefs

Task – Come and peg your card onto the washing line depending on what type of persecution you think it is RELIGIOUS RACIAL

Next Task Working in groups, you have been given the same cards as we pegged on the washing line. You now have to put your cards into a line. Start your line on the left with major persecution and work towards the right where minor forms of persecution should be placed. Please note – this task obviously has an element of PERSONAL OPINION – so DISCUSS the cards in your groups.

You are not being formally assessed on this unit of work on the Holocaust. However, you are being set a piece of homework that is designed to last for the duration of our study of the Holocaust. Therefore you have 4 weeks to complete this piece of homework. (I expect therefore at least 2 hours to go into it). You are to produce a piece of work that reflects your response to the Holocaust. It can be anything. In the past students have written songs, poems, created pieces of art, written stories, produced collages. Here is a piece of work a former Year 9 student did – it’s meant to INSPIRE you. Homework
