4 THE VOLUME OF REDEEMED SNVP VOUCHERS CONTINUES TO BE STRONGLY RELATED TO HCAS INTAKES CORRELATION BETWEEN SNVP VOUCHERS REDEEMED AND HCAS INTAKES = -.95

5 RECOMMENDATION #1. INCREASE VOLUME OF SNVP USING ESTABLISHED BEST PRACTICES INCREASE TIME TO REDEEM VOUCHERS FROM 30 DAYS TO 60 DAYS WITH NOTICE OF SHORTER PERIOD IF DESIGNATED FUNDS ARE NEARING DEPLETION AND AT END OF BUDGET CYCLE. INCREASE REDEMPTION RATE BY REMINDING APPLICANTS OF APPOINTMENT DATES AND CONTACTING THOSE WHO DO NOT REDEEM VOUCHERS TO OFFER ASSISTANCE. ENCOURAGE NON-PROFIT ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANIZATIONS TO INCREASE MARKETING CAMPAIGN AND ASSIST APPLICANTS WITH APPLICATION PROCESS.

6 RECOMMENDATION #2: REDUCE NUMBER OF STRAY CATS IMPOUNDED AT HCAS BY ADOPTING INDIVIDUALIZED ADMISSION PROCEDURES FOR STRAY AND FREE-ROAMING CATS IN ’12, STRAY CATS MADE UP 47% OF TOTAL DOG AND CAT INTAKES AT HCAS. MANY COMMUNITIES HAVE REDUCED INTAKES OF STRAY AND FREE- ROAMING CATS IN A HUMANE AND COST-EFFECTIVE WAY THROUGH INDIVIDUALIZED SHELTER ADMISSION POLICIES. MANY COMMUNITIES HAVE REDUCED SURRENDER INTAKE RATES IN A COST-EFFECTIVE AND HUMANE WAY THROUGH INDIVIDUALIZED SHELTER ADMISSION PROCEDURES FOR ANIMALS CITIZENS CONSIDER SURRENDERING AND SURRENDER PREVENTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS.
