Skills Proficiency Description and Programme Structure About the programme Entry Requirements Skills Proficiency The City & Guilds Skills Awards have been designed to provide a broad introduction to essential practical skills in areas of work. This qualification offers the opportunity for formal recognition of practical skills for people already working in various occupational areas with no formal qualifications. The course assessment is delivered through practical activities and oral questions. The Skills Proficiency offers the opportunity for formal recognition of practical skills for people already working in occupational areas but with no formal qualifications. The Skills Proficiency programme is designed to test the essential practical skills in the work place. IIRQ on behalf of the City and Guilds of London Institute will carry out the assessment, Candidate must provide suitable facilities for the practical assessment to be conducted. IIRQ can in special circumstances provide a location for candidates to be assessed. Please see the basic outline which will be covered in each course : Plumbing: ● B asic Tool Skills ● Cutting and bending Pipe ● Making pipe joints ● Maintain safe working conditions ● Adopt safe procedures for themselves and others ● Select and use tools in a correct and safe manner ● Set out pipe runs and pipe-work domestic water services ● Fix and connect accessories for domestic water services Electrical Installation: ●Setting out and installing domestic single phase circuits. ● Installing accessories and terminating cables. ● Maintain safe working conditions ● Adopt safe procedures for themselves and others. ● Select and use tools in a correct and safe manner. Upon successfully completing the Electrical Installation course, and are presented with the City and Guilds Award, these Candidates are then eligible to sit the Electrical license board examination to be come a Licensed electrician. *Conditions apply Fabrication and Welding: ●Identify metals and compare their properties ● Use hand tools and sheet metal cutting and folding equipment ● Use the off hand grinding machine and the fixed drilling machine. ● Select and use temporary and permanent methods of joining materials. Motor Vehicle Engineering: Basic tool skills. ●Types of layout and construction used in motor vehicles. ●Operating principles of motor vehicle system. ●Basic vehicle maintenance, replacement of minor assemblies and stripping of vehicle components. IT for Office Application:. ● Using input and output devices. ● Using word processing and spreadsheet software. ●Use of internet and email. ● Maintain safe working conditions. ●Create and edit word processing documents and spreadsheets. Food Preparation: ● Cleaning techniques and correct use of chemical ● Basic use of equipment and utensils ● Maintain safe working conditions ● Adopt safe procedures for themselves and others ● Prepare equipment and commodities for use. Carpentry: ● Safe working within their own area of work ●The prevention of hazards ●Basic tool skills ● Setting out and making basic joints and components to form products ● maintain safe working conditions ● Adopt safe procedures for themselves and others ● Maintain and sharpen tools. A completed registration form must be handed in. Applicants must attaché two (2) passport size photographs that have been stamped, signed and certified as a true copy by any one of the following persons; JP, Minister of Religion, Lawyer, Principal, Doctor or Superintendent of Police. Certificate Level applicants There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking the Certificate Level. However, Candidate must be able to provide evidence of literacy. For Practical Assessments (On the Job Assessment ), please submit two reference letters; One from a past or present employer and the other from a JP, stating the number of years you have been in the selected career field. Assessment and Examination Methods of assessment: Practical and Oral Questions Duration : 1 Semester (3 Months) Registration Fee: $ 3000 Tuition Fee : $ 30,000 per semester Examination Fee: $ 15,00 per semester IIRQ can provide an underpinning knowledge Booklet for this course at a cost of $500.00 Qualification cost
