May 2013 Updates: Hahgoot’s news: Term 2

The school grounds look so nice in autumn. It isn’t a large school, but the open lawns make it look vast.

This is the view of the school from our strata – we are across the street which is so convenient!

There are so many trees, it feels as if the school is in the middle of the forest...

The school introduced a new winter uniform for the girls (right) which I think looks quite smart. When we went to buy the new outfit, we also got Hahgoot a new tracksuit set (left).

Hahgoot also got a new “Holly Hobby” hat. Alma demonstrates that she can look both warm and cool in autumn...

Hahgoot won a big award at school: she got a literacy award, given once a month to one student from the whole school, and it is a $25 voucher for books! Reading all those books really paid off...

Hahgoot was very excited about this prize and went back to reading with renewed energy... This month she enjoyed wacky and wild books by Andy Griffiths and graphic novels (for example, on the left, learning about the bladder, and on the right, reading “The tale of Despereaux”, a comic book adaptation of the great book by Kate DiCamillo – all her books are highly recommended)

She especially enjoyed “Harriet the spy” by Louise Fitzhugh, which I remember fondly reading in nearly one sitting when I was in Year 5 or 6 (I read it in Hebrew). I was very surprised, when I went over it to see if it will fit Hahgoot, to discover that Harriet was an Aspergirl! Mrs Chan read Hahgoot’s “Super Misty” stories and wrote her a lovely note.

Misty has been highly involved with Hahgoot’s homework (the evenings are becoming chilly!)

Hahgoot finishes her school homework in 5 minutes, and spends the next hour and a half each evening with some extra work from me... Homeschooled with the benefit of going to school too...

Hahgoot got her best homework EVER from Mrs Chan: the task was to learn to tie her shoelaces and time herself! I nearly kissed the teacher! I tried to convince Hahgoot for 5 years to hold a shoelace, and now she was at last willing to learn as it was homework and you don’t argue with that... Barak got the honour of demonstrating and Hahgoot was extremely surprised to find out that she could do it easily! As you can see, I even have a special kit to teach and practice the task... Now she is excited about the prospect of getting school shoes with shoelaces next year! Gaining a new skill opens opportunities. In our next presentation: More studies!
